Wall Surface Guidance
Smooth, Primed Drywall
The gold standard for both types. If your walls are flat and properly primed, you have full flexibility. This is when Peel & Stick performs closest to Traditional in terms of adhesion and longevity.
Textured or Uneven Walls
Heavily textured surfaces (orange peel, knockdown, brick) make it difficult for either type to adhere cleanly. Traditional wallpaper with paste fills in minor texture better than self-adhesive. For significant texture, skim-coating the wall first is recommended before any wallpaper installation.
Paint Condition & Type
Paint must be fully cured — typically 30 days minimum after painting. Peel & Stick works best on eggshell or satin finishes. On flat or matte paint, the adhesive can bond too aggressively with the paint layer, risking paint pull when removed. Traditional wallpaper paste is generally more forgiving across paint types.

Best for: Renters, accent walls, temporary installs, confident DIYers who want repositionability.

Seam Visibility
All wallpaper has seams — the goal is to minimize their appearance. Traditional wallpaper paste allows panels to be butted tightly together as the paste sets, creating nearly invisible seams on smooth walls. Peel & Stick seams are more visible, particularly in raking light. Pattern-matched designs (like our florals and geometrics) help draw the eye away from seam lines.
Removal Expectations
No wallpaper is entirely risk-free to remove, and results depend heavily on your wall preparation, paint type, and how long the wallpaper has been installed.
- Peel & Stick: Designed to be removable from properly prepared surfaces. Remove slowly at a low angle. Walls with matte or aged paint carry a higher risk of surface disruption.
- Traditional: Requires soaking or steaming. Expect a more involved removal process and plan for potential wall touch-up or skim-coating afterward.
Rental Suitability
Peel & Stick is the practical choice for renters. It is designed to come off without major damage when applied to well-prepared walls. That said, we recommend testing a sample panel in an inconspicuous area first and confirming your lease terms before installing. Traditional wallpaper is not recommended for rental situations.

What is it?
The removable peel & stick wallpaper is a DIY friendly option that has a ready to use adhesive on the back (like a giant sticker). This mean that you can stick it on your wall immediately after removing the backing. Plus, it is reposition-able.
Pros
- IDEAL FOR RENTERS. This peel & stick wallpaper is totally removable! Once you are done with it, just peel it off the wall in seconds (WATCH HERE!). No residue will be left.
- DIY friendly. You can hang this product yourself (WATCH HERE!), and it is really easy to use for other non-wall related projects as well.
- Easy to replace if you like to switch things up every so often

Cons
- Kids love to peel this off the walls, so if you have kids, this is a warning! Traditional wallpaper might be a better option for you.
- Not suitable for bathrooms with high moisture. Powder rooms are okay, as are highly ventilated areas. Traditional Wallpaper would be a better option.
- Not great for textured walls if installed incorrectly. Peel & stick is more susceptible to air bubbles if not installed correctly on textured surfaces, which is the main cause of wallpaper peeling off the walls. Please note, those air bubbles can be smoothed out.

The traditional wallpaper is a smooth paper product that includes a roll on adhesive. It is a favorite product of professional wallpaper installers.
Pros
- IDEAL FOR HOMEOWNERS and long term installation. If you do not plan on moving anytime soon, this is the product for you.
- The smooth paper is ideal for printing. The colors and clarity of the artwork is super bright and crips. It is seriously gorgeous!
- Less expensive than the removable peel & stick wallpaper.
- Easier to clean off light scuffing. Just use a dust rag.
- DIY friendly. You can hang this product yourself. WATCH HERE!
- Ideal choice for bathrooms, as it is more durable and can be sealed with a wallpaper varnish.
- TOTALLY REMOVABLE with steam! It should do no damage to your wall. It just takes a little more work to come off.
- Printed-to-order in the USA.
Cons
- Hanging is a little more technical. You can do it yourself, however if you are not handy, you might need to hire a professional wallpaper hanger.
- Not as easily removable as the peel & stick. It will come off your walls, but it requires a wallpaper steamer to take off your walls.
- More permeant. If you like to switch up your decor often or follow trends, peel & stick is a better option for you.
