Installing your Peel & Stick Wallpaper:

BEFORE INSTALLATION:

Allow recently painted or primed walls to cure for 4 weeks prior to installing your Samantha Santana wallpaper.

To prepare your walls for wallpaper, use a damp cloth of sponge and clean the surface with water. Allow of the walls to dry thoroughly before beginning install.

PREPARE YOUR PANELS

Unroll your wallpaper and cut on the dotted lines to separate each panel and layout the panels in numerical order to stay organized. Once your panels are laid out on the floor, check that all panels are free of damage/misprints and the coloring is correct from edge to edge.

If your print was split into multiple rolls, it is imperative to lay out your panels to determine if you are beginning with the correct roll. If needed, please reach out to hello@samanthasantana.com for assistance with this.

INSTALLATION:

MAKE A PLUMB LINE

Hanging your first panel of wallpaper level and straight is key to the success of your project.

To create your plumb line begin by using a pencil and leveling tool and mark a 18 1/2 inch plumb line from the corner where you will begin your installation.

This plumb line will be your guide to help install your first panel perfectly!

START IN A CORNER

Start in the top left corner of the room, wall, or other surface you're covering. We highly encourage leaving about an inch of overhang on the left corner and above the ceiling line to ensure everything is level and straight. Any overhang will be trimmed at the end of your installation.

PRO TIP: If covering all the walls in a room, choose an inconspicuous corner to begin.

APPLYING THE FIRST PANEL

Pick up your first panel labeled panel one. (Note: The black panel labeling belongs at the bottom of the wall when installing.) Slowly peel back about 18-24 inches of the backing.

Grab the top corners and gently drop the panel. Stick your paper to the wall, aligning the right side of the panel along your plumb line. Adhere your wallpaper onto your wall using a combination of the smoothing tool and your hands.

Peel and Stick wallpaper is repositionable, so if you need to adjust the placement slowly peel the paper off the wall and adjust as necessary.

Once the top of the panel is in position, gently peel the paper backing down 5-10 inches (15-25cm) at a time and smooth the wallpaper onto the wall using the squeegee provided and your hands, moving from the center outwards.

PRO TIP: If you need to easily maneuver the panel, fold the backing paper away from the adhesive and crease the paper.

BEGIN OVERLAPPING

Pick up your second strip of wallpaper and peel back about 18-24 inches of the wallpaper and apply it so that its edge overlaps the previous strip by approximately ½ inch, visually matching the repeat.

When aligning the panel be sure to use a gentle touch to prevent stretching or warping.

Do not trim the overlap; it guarantees that the wallpaper will repeat seamlessly. Repeat this step, aligning each new panel over the previous one.

FINAL STAGE

Once you’ve applied all panels, use a sharp utility knife to trim any excess at the edges of the wall and any excess paper on the left and right edge of your installation area.

Now you're done! Stand back and admire your beautiful wall!

We highly encourage leaving about an inch of overhang on the left corner and above the ceiling line to ensure everything is level and straight.

Do not rely on your wall or ceiling to be straight. Any overhang will be trimmed at the end of your installation.

APPLYING THE FIRST PANEL

Grab a paint brush or roller and apply a thick and even coat of paste to the wall about the width of a single panel to ensure the paste does not dry before moving onto the next panel. It should be a heavy enough coat that your panel can slide for repositioning on the wall.

Grab your panel and apply it to the wall along your plumb line, sliding the panel around if needed. If panel does not slide, apply more paste to the wall. Be sure to leave 1/2 inch overhang at the top and bottom of the panel to ensure everything is level and straight.

As you install, use a wet cloth to wipe away any paste on your panels immediately.

After positioning the panel, check the side of the wallpaper to ensure you keep the print level.

Smooth the wallpaper onto the wall using the squeegee provided, moving from the center outwards.

APPLYING THE FOLLOWING PANELS

Apply the next panel in the same manner. Be sure to match the pattern on the wall at eye level and butt the seams tightly up against one another.

Do not overlap as the wallpaper is designed to be installed seamlessly.

FINAL STAGE

Once you’ve applied all panels, use a sharp utility knife to trim any excess at the edges of the wall and any excess paper on the left and right edge of your installation area.

Prepare your Luxe Paste

Preparing your Luxe Traditional Paste:

Preparing your paste properly will be the key to a successful installation of your Luxe Traditional wallpaper.

MATERIALS NEEDED:

  • Wall Blush paste packet
  • Mixing bucket or a large bowl
  • Stirring stick/spoon
  • 3/4 gallon room temperature water

First you will begin by adding your water to your bucket. To ensure the best paste consistency, your water will need to be at room temperature.

Taking your stir stick or spoon, begin slowly mixing the water in circular motions. As you stir, begin slowly adding the paste to the water. Do not stop stirring as you add in the paste as this will lead to clumping in your mixture.

After all the contents of the paste packet have been added to the water, continue stirring for about a minute to ensure everything is properly incorporated.

Allow the paste to sit for 10 minutes as it will thicken. Your paste should be a thin, hair gel like consistency. If your paste is too thick you can slowly add a 1/4 cup of water at a time to thin it out.

If you experience any trouble preparing your paste, please reach out to our Customer Support Team at hello@samanthasantana.com or via chat!

Remove Bubbles

 Removing Bubbles from your Wallpaper:

Bubbles can occur on your panels when there is an air pocket present causing your panels to not lay flat on your wall. Not to worry though, we can help.

Using a utility knife or needle/push pin poke a small hole in the bubble. You will then take your smoothing tool and work the air out of the bubble using your hand or your smoothing tool. This should do the trick to remove any stubborn bubbles trapped under your panel.

Removing bubbles is extremely important as air pockets lead to adhesion failure.

Avoid Open Seams

Avoiding Open Seams with Luxe Traditional

Several factors can cause open seams with your wallpaper and we are going to dive into those and how you can avoid them when wallpapering your space with our Luxe Traditional material!

1. The surface wasn't prepared appropriately

Proper surface preparation is crucial to prevent open seams. Excessive or insufficient absorbency, old paint layers, and uneven patches can impact dry tension and adhesion. Ensure the surface is appropriately treated, removing old paint and irregularities.

2. Irregular soaking or drying time for your wallpaper.

If the room temperature is too high or there is a draught, the wallpaper will dry more quickly than the adhesive, the dry tension cannot be balanced and the seams can split open.

3. Insufficient amounts of wallpapering paste have been applied to the edges of paper-based wallpaper or have dried out

It is important to apply enough adhesive to the edges of any paper-based wallpaper. They need to be covered completely, but not excessively. When folding the lengths after applying the paste, the edges need to be exactly aligned - if they aren't, the exposed areas dry out. The folded wallpaper should then be re-folded in order to prevent any parts/edges from drying out.

Remove your Peel & Stick Wallpaper

Removing your Peel & Stick Wallpaper:

The removal of our Self Adhesive Vinyl products is easy! Think like removing a giant sticker.

First you will start by exposing a corner of your design and slowly peel it away from the wall. Patience is key in your removal technique as it will decrease any chances of paint flecking occurring during the removal process.

If you have applied your vinyl product to a less porous surface like glass, we recommend using a hairdryer set to a low heat to warm up your wallpaper. This will slightly release the adhesive, making it even easier to peel off.

Once you have peeled up your corner, using two hands continue to pull the wallpaper off your wall from a 45 degree angle until it is completely removed from your wall!

Remove Luxe Traditional Wallpaper

How to Remove Luxe Traditional Wallpaper:

Removing your Luxe wallpaper doesn't have to be intimidating. Using our provided paste, your wallpaper can be removed with ease compared to old school wallpaper!

The following tools you'll need for removal are:

  • A sponge
  • Cloth/Towel
  • A bucket of water
  • A spray bottle with water

To begin, you will remove any outlet/light switch covers that were screwed in on top of your wallpaper. This will ensure you can easily peel off your wallpaper.

The next step will be to reactivate the paste underneath your wallpaper panels. This is what will allow your wallpaper to lift easily for removal.

To do so you will take your spray bottle and begin spraying the whole panel with water liberally. Use your sponge to push the water into the panels to ensure they are fully saturated. Allow 5-7 minutes for the water to reactivate your paste.

Starting from a corner you will begin slowly peeling your wallpaper away from the wall. This should lift easily. If you get to any spot that your wallpaper is not lifting, take your sponge soaked in water and press the water into that area and allow it to sit for a few minutes. This should do the trick and allow you to continue with removal. Repeat as needed using your tools if you have any spots having trouble lifting!

Once all of your wallpaper is removed, there will be some paste left over on your wall. You will take your bucket of water and a towel and wipe away all of the residue. Our paste is starch based and should not leave any stickiness on your wall after removing all the paste!

To ensure your wall is extra clean, you can take your favorite all purpose surface cleaner and spray that on your wall and wipe it away. Viola- your wall is wallpaper free!

*NOTE: We have also used a wallpaper and clothes steamer to saturate the wallpaper instead of a sponge, and it works marvelously as well!
